Malcolm Wilson Rally Results

Third round of the 2008 SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship moved to Cumbria for the Malcolm Wilson Rally in the Lake District forests. A cold shower day was endured by all the crews, with a new set of names topping the results.

William Jarman/Mark Fisher (Escort Cosworth) led the SG Petch ANECCC contenders from the start with fastest time on 6 of the 7 stages, the new Dunlop tyres they were trying working extremely well, the only stage they were not fastest on was Grizedale North where a high speed spin dropped them 30 seconds. Alex Allingham/Mark Glennerster (Subaru Impreza) finished second, but were held back in the early stages with a slipping clutch. A steady run with no reported problems gave Marcus Noble/Helen Hall (Escort MkII) 3rd, Marcus is obviously best suited to the drivers seat after misdirecting Helen at a split on the Jack Frost resulting in a stage maximum. 4th finishers were Carl and Rob Tuer in their Super 1600 MG ZR, and first in class 6, they again finished with no rear bumper, that’s two on two rallies.

The best supported class among the SG Petch ANECCC competitors was the 1400cc class, with 4 competing crews. 5th finishers were Jayne and David Arden in a hired MG ZR they were using as their own had not been repaired after a mis-hap on the Grizedale Stages, the only problem they experienced all day was two punctures on Grizedale North. Sian Beaty/Julianne Antrobus (KA) and Andrew and Reg Irving (205) both reported no problems but said the stages were very slippy. Going into the last stage they were tied, but Sian and Julianne pulled out a 30 second gap on the last stage. Last SG Petch ANECCC finishers were Nick Morgan/Shaun Leggett (KA) who were suffering from a slipping clutch, and also had a trip into a Grizedale ditch that required spectator power to lift them out.

There were two non finishers, Richard and Edwin Cook (Astra) struggled to solve the electrical fault that put them out of the Riponian, and just made the start, but the problem re-occurred at the start of stage 3. Geoff Wilson/Richard Cooke (Escort MkII) retired at the end of stage 3 with gearbox problems.

Current standings are:-

1st Carl Tuer on 22 points, with Nick Morgan 2nd on 21, and the 3 rally winners so far, Richard Cook, Malloch Nicoll, William Jarman, all tied on 20 points

Riponian Stages Rally Results

Second round of the 2008 SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship moved to the forests of North Yorkshire for the Riponian Stages Rally.

With the change from the tarmac of the first round, to the gravel, meant a completely different set of competitors scoring points. The only crew that has started both are the reigning champions Richard and

Edwin Cook, this time in their usual Astra, instead of the SGP Motorsport Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 they used on the Jack Frost. After holding an early 12th overall, and 3rd ANECCC crew, they retired at first service when the Astra refused to start.

Malloch Nicoll made the long trip down from Dundee with his Mitsubishi Lancer and had a trouble free run to 6th overall and highest placed ANECCC crew. Second placed ANECCC crew were Charlie Taylor/Steve Bielby in their Ford Escort MkII in 10th overall, and second in class C, by 1 second. Carl and Rob Tuer brought their Super 1600 MG home 1st in class B and 3rd ANECCC crew, they had one slight off but lost little time, only their rear bumper.

The last ANECCC crew to finish were Nick Morgan/Shaun Leggott in the Ford KA who survied a few scary moments early on with strange handling due to a worn ball joint, this was repaired at service and led to a much less fraught second half of the rally. Ian Bainbridge/Giles Dykes unfortunately rolled out of the rally on stage 8.

Current standings are:-

Driver & Co-driver
=1st Richard Cook – 20 pts =1st Edwin Cook – 20 pts
=1st Malloch Nicoll – 20 pts =1st Steve Bielby – 20 pts
3rd Nick Morgan – 16 pts =3rd Amy Mackinnon – 15pts
