Bulletin – 03/11
The 2011 SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship started a run of four forest rallies with the Riponian Stages Rally in the North Yorkshire forests. The competitors were greeted with very slippy conditions due to the snow that had fallen in the days leading up to the rally.
2010 champion Michael Glendinning/Andrew Roughhead (Subaru Impreza) got their title defence of to a winning start, with 2nd position overall. They had no major problems all day, except for the loss of their rear bumper on the second stage, but they didn’t know they had lost it until the end of the stage. If anyone knows of a blue Subaru bumper being found in Wass, Michael would appreciate its return. Second place SG Petch ANECCC points went to the historic specification Ford Escort of Charlie Taylor and Steve Bielby; they lost time on the early stages as they were running first car on the road and had the worst of the road conditions. But on the second loop of stages when the roads were clear of snow they upped their pace and climbed the leader board finishing 2nd historic. Third place points also went to a historic specification Ford Escort; this was the old MkI 1600cc version of Neil Rudd and Brian Hodgson. The only problem they encountered was the loss of their exhaust on the later stages. Joanna Wickham/Josh Davison (Subaru Impreza) collect 4th place points in a day of firsts, it was the first time they competed together, it was Joanna’s first outing since last years Tour of Hamsterley, it was 16 year old Josh’s first time in the forests. Despite all these firsts they had an enjoyable day with a clean run, and are now looking forward to the Malcolm Wilson Rally. The final SG Petch ANECCC finishers were Adam and Ian Tomlinson (Ford Puma) who were just pleased to reach the finish as it was 8 rallies since their last finish.
A number of SG Petch ANECCC competitors did not make the finish; Peter Thornton/Tim Hobbs destroyed their Subaru Impreza in a multiple roll on the second stage, fortunately without injury. Also retiring on the 2nd stage were Mark I’Anson/Alex Copper (Mitsubishi Evo
with transmission problems. Retiring at service at the end of the first loop of stages were Phil Jobson/Caroline Lodge (Ford Escort) who had lost a considerable amount of time with a couple of undamaging offs, and decided to call it a day and save their car for the Malcolm Wilson Rally in two weeks time.
After two round the current points standings are:-
Drivers
Simon Moore and Michael Glendinning on 20 pts, Alistair Hutchinson and Charlie Taylor on15 pts, and Barry Lindsay and Neil Rudd on 12 pts.
Co-drivers.
Janice Moore and Andrew Roughhead on 20 pts, St John Dykes and Steve Bielby on 15 pts, and Michael Lindsay and Brian Hodgson on 12 pts.

Riponian Stages Rally Results
Second round of the 2008 SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship moved to the forests of North Yorkshire for the Riponian Stages Rally.
With the change from the tarmac of the first round, to the gravel, meant a completely different set of competitors scoring points. The only crew that has started both are the reigning champions Richard and
Edwin Cook, this time in their usual Astra, instead of the SGP Motorsport Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 they used on the Jack Frost. After holding an early 12th overall, and 3rd ANECCC crew, they retired at first service when the Astra refused to start.
Malloch Nicoll made the long trip down from Dundee with his Mitsubishi Lancer and had a trouble free run to 6th overall and highest placed ANECCC crew. Second placed ANECCC crew were Charlie Taylor/Steve Bielby in their Ford Escort MkII in 10th overall, and second in class C, by 1 second. Carl and Rob Tuer brought their Super 1600 MG home 1st in class B and 3rd ANECCC crew, they had one slight off but lost little time, only their rear bumper.
The last ANECCC crew to finish were Nick Morgan/Shaun Leggott in the Ford KA who survied a few scary moments early on with strange handling due to a worn ball joint, this was repaired at service and led to a much less fraught second half of the rally. Ian Bainbridge/Giles Dykes unfortunately rolled out of the rally on stage 8.
Current standings are:-
Driver & Co-driver
=1st Richard Cook – 20 pts =1st Edwin Cook – 20 pts
=1st Malloch Nicoll – 20 pts =1st Steve Bielby – 20 pts
