Pirelli National Rally

For round five of the 2008 SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship competitors remained in the Keilder forest complex for the Pirelli National Rally. Although the National Rally was running ahead of the International for their seven stages they had already been used once by the Historic and International competitors which meant they were quite rough in places.

Despite this being the first time Gary Cooper/Jon Reily (Subaru Impreza) had competed in Keilder they set a consistently high pace to win the National Rally overall, and become the 5th different maximum points scorer in 5 rallies, this was despite an off road excursion on the 6th stage that resulted in some cosmetic damage.

William Jarman/Mark Fisher (Escort Cosworth) made up for their non-finish on the Border Counties Rally to finish second and therefore close in on Carl and Rob Tuer at the top of the points table. Kevin Charles/Anthony Jevons brought a Formula 1000 Nissan Micra out, instead of their Fiesta ST, for a play in the forests, to give Anthony some experience on pacenotes before the Jim Clark Reviers, and despite having at least 50% less power that the next least powerful car they had wide grins all day and reported no problems on their way to winning the 1400 class.

After 4 rounds on gravel the championship now switches to tarmac for the next 4 rounds, so will this result in a change at the top of the championship.

Current standings are:-

  1. Driver Carl Tuer - 42 points
  2. Driver William Jarman - 35 points
  3. Driver Marcus Noble - 27 points
  4. Driver Barry Lindsay - 22 points.
  1. Co-driver Rob Tuer - 45 points
  2. Co-driver Mark Fisher - 35 points
  3. Co-driver Helen Hall - 27 points
  4. Co-driver Michael Lindsay - 22 points.

The 6th round of the championship is the Jim Clark Reivers Rally on 25th May, this is always a popular event so get your entries in quickly to improve your chances of getting a start, regs are available on the rally website www.jimclarkrally.com

The regs for round 7, the Tyneside Stages on the 22nd June should be available soon at www.tynesidestages.co.uk

The Lion Stages this year will be a co-promoted event between Alnwick and the 1400 Rally Club and will be run as a 1400 only rally; therefore the event has had to be withdrawn from the 2008 SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship

Due to a date change of some event in South Wales the Grizedale Stages has had to be brought forward to the 29th November, all other event details remain the same.
For those competitors that can not wait until the Tour of Hamsterley in September for their next forest rally regs are now available for West Cumbria Motorsport Club’s Greystoke Stages on the 13th July, at www.greystokestages.co.uk

Championship Regulations and Entry Forms are available on the championship website – www.anecccstagerally.co.uk/regulations.html
