Bulletin – 11/10
For round 8 of the 2010 SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship crews paid their annual visit to the Warcop Ranges and Lowther Park for the Stobart Rail Pendragon Stages.
For the second round running, Michael Glendinning/Andrew Roughead (Subaru Impreza) took maximum SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship points, with 4th overall. What made their performance more exceptional was this was the first time they had competed on Warcop, so after a steady run over the first loop of stages they upped their pace to climb up the leaderboard. As on the Tyneside Stages second place points were taken by Richard and Edwin Cook (Subaru Impreza) who had a clean run to 5th overall. In another giant killing act Barry and Michael Lindsay (Peugeot 106) scored 3rd place championship points, in 9th place overall being not only first 1600cc car to finish but the highest place 2WD. The fourth place ANECCC championship crew, and first 2.0 litre, were Charlie Taylor/Steve Bielby (Ford Escort MkII), they took a bit of time to get used to the extra grip of the wider tyres they were using in their non-historic spec Escort, after a year of having to make do with the narrower tyres required on historic events. Mark I’Anson/Ron Roughead (Mitsubishi Evo) had a steady run on the first lop of stages, building their confidence, as it was their first time on tarmac since last years Pendragon Stages, which they retired on after an accident. They upped their pace on the 2nd and 3rd loop to climb up the leaderboard and take 5th place SG Petch ANECCC Championship points.
The remaining SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship points were taken by Peter Thornton/Stephen Thompson (Subaru Impreza) who overcame an overheating engine on the 1st stage that was caused by a loose wire. Mark Thompson/Andy Brown (Peugeot 206) had a clean run despite Andy being sick on the 2nd stage. Malcolm Davey/Paul Slingsby again put may more modern machines to shame in their Mk1 Ford Escort. John Bainbridge/Giles Dykes (Subaru Impreza) damaged their 4th front bumper on 4 rallies. David and Alison Crozier (Peugeot 205) and Paul Atkinson/Chris Williams (Vauxhall Nova) both had clean runs to the finish. Sian Beaty/Julianne Antriobus also had a clean run to the finish in their first outing in their new Ford KA.
There were a number of championship non-finishers; first to retire on stage 2 were Geoff Harkness/Caroline Lodge (Vauxhall Corsa) with no 2nd gear, Marcus Noble/Helen Hall (Ford Escort MkII) blown diff, Alistair Hutchinson/St John Dyes (Renault Clio LPG) broken driveshaft and Geoff Wilson/Sean O’Neill (Ford Escort MkII) blown engine all on stage 7. Andrew and Reg Irving (Peugeot 205) off on stage 11, and Dave and Steve Nicolson (Ford Escort MkII) with a misfire after stage 12.
After the Pendragon Stages the SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship is now a two horse race between Richard and Edwin Cook and Michael Glendinning and Andrew Roughead. Too win the championship Michael Glendinning and Andrew Roughead must finish top ANECCC crew on the remaining three rounds, if they don’t the Cook’s will retain their championship crown.
One award that was settled on the Pendragon Stages was for class 4, over 2 litres, which has been won by Tony Thompson (Snr)/Paul Hudson (Vauxhall Chevette), who were unable to start the Pendragon due to a blown engine on last weeks Ulster Historic Rally.

Bulletin – 10/10
After a break of over 2 months the 2010 SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship resumed on the Otterburn Ranges for the Tyneside Stages Rally.
Having used their Mk2 Escort on the previous rounds they contested, Michael Glendinning/Andrew Roughead used their Subaru Impreza on a round of the SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship for the first time, and came away with their first maximum score of the year, and 3rd overall on the rally. Second place points went to reigning champions Richard and Edwin Cook in their Group N Subaru Impreza, in 6th place overall on the rally, and first in class. First 1600cc car home, in 12th overall, were Otterburn experts Barry and Michael Lindsay (Peugeot 106) gaining 3rd place championship points. The 4th ANECCC championship finishers, and the 3rd contender to win their class, were Charlie Taylor/Steve Bielby in their historic Ford Escort MkII.
Other SG Petch ANECCC Stage Rally Championship points scores were Geoff Harkness/Caroline Lodge (Vauxhall Corsa) in 27th position, with Mark Thompson/Andrew Hutchinson (Peugeot 206) 11 seconds behind them in 28th place. Robin Shuttleworth/Ron Roughead (Ford Escort MkI) were second historic finisher, with the final ANECC finisher being Paul Dolan/Giles Dykes (Mitsubishi Evo 9)
There were a number of championship non-finishers; first to retire on stage 1 were Tony Thompson/Paul Hudson (Vauxhall Chevette) with no brakes, Alistair Hutchinson/Steve Walmsley (Renault Clio LPG) retired on stage 2 with an oil leak, and Malcolm Davey/Paul Slingsby (Ford Escort MkI) retired after stage 3 with clutch failure.
Although it looks like Richard and Edwin Cook are running away with their 5th ANECCC championship they have now scored points on 6 rounds, and will now start dropping their worst scores. So to increase their current points any further they require wins, but this will only increase their total by 5 points as they have to drop a 2nd place score. Both Michael Glendinning and Charlie Taylor have only scored on 4 rounds so they can score on a further two rounds before dropped scores come into effect.
After seven rounds the current points standings are:-
Drivers
Richard Cook 105 pts, Michael Glendinning 59 pts, Charlie Taylor 44 pts, Shaun Sinclair 40 pts, Joanna Wickham 29 pts, and Tony Thompson (Snr) 28 pts.
Co-drivers.
Edwin Cook 105 pts, Steve Bielby 50 pts, Andrew Roughead 44pts, Chris Hamill 40 pts, Paul Hudson 36 pts and Stephen Thompson 27 pts.
With the loss of a two championship rounds regulation 5 of the championship regulations has been revised to the following “Competitors must start 3 rounds to be eligible for an award”.
It is now across the country to Penrith for the Stobart Rail Pendragon Stages over the Warcop Ranges and Lawther Part on the 29th August, Regulations and online entry is available on the rally website www.pendragonstages.co.uk
This is followed by a return to Otterburn for the last tarmac round of the championship, the UTS Cheviot Keith Knox Stages on the revised date of 10th October, full details and regulations will be available soon on the rally website www.cheviotstages.co.uk
